Ken Burton     2020-05-10

John 3:17-21 - Why Did Jesus Come? INTRODUCTION: Our Sunday night and Wednesday night lessons have focused on the Gospel of John Most recently we have been in John 3, and have looked at the character, Nicodemus; then we looked at Jesus’ teaching on the New Birth; then we looked at The Cost of Our Salvation from John 3:16. In this lesson we continue to look at John’s record to find and beginning with John 3:17–21 we will find several “mission statements,” or answers to the question “Why Did Jesus Come?” I. JESUS CAME TO SAVE THE ___________ (JOHN 3:17–21; 12:47) II. JESUS CAME TO __________ GOD’S WORDS (JOHN 3:34; 8:28) III. JESUS CAME TO DO THE ______________ WILL (JOHN 4:34; 6:38) IV. JESUS CAME TO ___________ THE FATHER’S WORK (JOHN 5:17, 19; 17:4; 19:30) V. JESUS CAME TO EXECUTE ____________ (JOHN 5:27; 9:39; 12:48) VI. JESUS CAME TO LAY DOWN HIS __________ (JOHN 10:15, 17, 18; 12:27; 15:13) VII. JESUS CAME TO ____________ DARKNESS (JOHN 12:46) VIII. JESUS CAME TO ______________ TO THE TRUTH (JOHN 18:37) IX. JESUS CAME TO DEMAND ______________ LOYALTY (JOHN 21:15–23) CONCLUSION: If I were to choose just one passage that pretty well summarizes Jesus’ mission, it would be John 10:10—“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” Are you enjoying the abundant life that only Jesus can give?
