ELDERS' WISDOM

Luke 12:48 (ESV)
48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.

I guess this passage has been quoted to people in many circumstances. It appears the Lord was talking about folks who knew the truth and did not act upon it according to his expressed desire for each of us. It car-ries forward the principle that we should work as hard and equal to the level of our learning. A new convert is not going to be expected to produce the same results as I am. I have heard it applied to giving to the church with the thought that those who earn more should give more.
I believe that it applies as a matter of faith to all the things we do. We must understand that the purpose for us being on this earth is very simple: We are here to be the people our Lord and Savior can present to God the Father as His church. Faithful, loving, singing, teaching, giving, hard working for the cause. People who just happen to be earning money by hard work to give to the church to help spread the Gospel. People who are stu-dents of the word, rightly dividing the word to help properly teach others and spread the Gospel. People who act and react different from the world so other folks can see the difference in our lives and provide an oppor-tunity to talk to them about the Gospel. People who are in the world BUT not of the world and through all those varied relationships have more opportunity to influence the people in our congregation, in our homes and families, in our neighborhood, in our work, in our city, state and country. You may say "I am just one per-son, what can I do?". Please remember that all this started by one man and was spread by 12. I heard it said "Never doubt the power of a small group of people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has." We all have much more to give…..all of us. I am blessed beyond my wildest imagination. It is scary to consider how I will give account for all He has given me. I do not think for a minute I am alone. Let's pray for each other that each of us step up, work harder, give more and love more to help spread the Gospel.
